Health commissioner appointed to federal health agency’s Board of Scientific Counselors

 

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael O. Leavitt has appointed Matthew Stefanak, Health Commissioner of the General Health District in Mahoning County, to serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors, National Center for Environmental Health and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Stefanak’s appointment is for a two-year term ending June 2, 2009.

 

Chartered by Congress, the Board of Scientific Counselors provides advice and guidance to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Directors of CDC, National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry regarding agency goals, objectives, strategies, and priorities in fulfillment of these agencies’ mission to protect and promote America’s health.  It also provides guidance to ensure the quality, timeliness, utility, and dissemination of scientific information from these federal agencies.
