Board of Health Appointed Interim Medical Director and Medical Epidemiologist

 

At the June 2007 Board of Health Meeting, John S. Venglarcik, III, M.D. was appointed interim Medical Director and Medical Epidemiologist for the District Board of Health.

 

He has been at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine since 1983 and is currently Professor of Pediatrics and Master Teacher teaching at all levels of the curriculum.  He has until recently served as Association Dean for Clinical Education on the Youngtown campus as well as Director of Pediatric Diseases at Tod Children’s Hospital.  He currently continues to practice pediatric and adolescent infectious diseases at Forum Health’s Northside Medical Center.

 

Dr. Venglarcik was born and raised in Struthers, Ohio where he attended Struthers High School.  After graduating from Kent State University with a BS in Zoology he attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine receiving his MD degree in 1977.  He interned in pediatrics at Columbus Children’s Hospital and completed his pediatric training St. Louis University and the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.  He stayed in St. Louis and completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases and hospital epidemiology at the same institutions.  He is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Infectious Disease Society of America.

 

Dr. Venglarcik has published numerous papers, written several book chapters and made scholarly presentations around the United States as well as several foreign countries.  He founded the first local clinic for the treatment of women and children with HIV infections over twenty years ago, where he still serves as medical director.

 

He currently resides in Poland with his wife Margaret.  He has two daughters, one that is a social worker in Washington D.C. and another who is a first year student at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.
